I needed a couple of new picture frames and I wanted to match ones that I had previously bought from Sears. I started in the portrait area of the store. It was permanently closed as was the optical center. I went downstairs to where the photo frames used to be in housewares. No photo frames, just a huge area of mattresses and recliners.
I was puzzled and sat down in one of the recliners to get my bearings. An employee asked if she could help. I asked where I could find the picture frames. She advised me that Sears has closed all of their portrait studios and optical centers nationwide. They have also done away with many household products, including picture frames.
As I dejectedly ambled toward the store exit, I browsed the clothing hoping that they had resumed selling Land's End clothing. Nope. I guess I will have to go online for my Land's End purchases.
Sears used to be a comprehensive department store where you could get just about anything you needed. Now their inventory seems limited to beds, cheap clothing, appliances, and Craftsmen tools (which you can now buy at any ACE hardware store). Sigh. I sure miss full service department stores.
