Bakeries like Wilde Grainz are making me wonder how I ever shopped at grocery store bakeries. I was in today to get a mini lemon strawberry cake with my Passport to Inglewood and came out with the cake, a loaf of sourdough bread (did you know each loaf of bread takes 3 days to make?) and a chocolate croissant.
The lemon strawberry cake reminded me of a cupcake, but without the guilt. How can having a piece of cake not make me feel guilty you wonder? Well, first off, it's so much lighter than a cupcake, and not nearly as sweet, but still wonderfully delicious. The icing is a light whip rather than the heavy cream cheese style icing on the infamous cupcakes around town. That in and of itself is enough to wipe away at least 3/4 of the guilty part of this pleasure. What about that last quarter? Well, the chocolate croissant should do a good job of soaking that up. I may need to head out for a run after that though ;).
I've seen the Wilde Grainz logo at a few restaurants in town as the bread and dessert supplier. From that alone I've come to associate the name with quality baked goods.Having visited the storefront, they've made a believer out of me.
The only downfall here is the hours. Plan to catch your bread or treats from Wednesday to Sunday as this little 'bud teaser is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
