| - Pros: Real attempt at presenting animals in a natural ecosystem. The diversity of animals is terrific. I love the wolves, zebras, the children's petting zoo, the lions, the orangutangs, the tigers, the birds, well you get the drift. The setting is a park-like, relaxing environment with well planned rest stops along the way. Many educational programs are offered to the community. The gift shop is nice, but a bit pricey. There are food stops along the trails, but again a bit pricey (bring your own bottled water as water fountains are pretty far apart).
Cons: Prices ($18 per adult and $9 per child) are a real deterrent (too high for everything). Parking LOOKS plentiful, but during busy times you will be parking 1/4-3/4 mile from the entrance. The amount of walking required to see most exhibits is extreme, especially for older people or those orthopedically less than 100%. Yes, there is a tram ($4 per person), but then we are back to the too expensive scenario. I wish that they opened at 6 am instead of 7am in the summer. The winter visiting hours are too short (9am-4pm).
Bottom line: Nice zoo, but too expensive for many families ($96 for 2 parents and 4 children for admission and tram ride).
