| - First off, this zoo is much better than the Phoenix zoo. You can actually see the animals close up, and the variety of animals is impressive. They really close at 5:15 or so, so plan accordingly!
Helpful hints:
Buy your tickets on Groupon to save $.
Have cash and quarters. Cash is great because there are rides. I saw complaints about the rides, but they are well-worth it with exception of the roller coaster. We got on a ride today and the park was pretty empty. You only go around one time. You'd think the operator could let you go more than once, but $6 for 2 minutes was a little steep. The other rides were super amazing and well-worth it.
Quarters are useful to buy food from these little machines to feed ducks. Fun!
Cons:
They sell icees (slushee machine) for $4 which is a good deal, BUT no lids! If you are not going to provide lids for drinks, then just sell bottled water. I understand the issue with garbage, but the cup is garbage too.
The park advertises that it is open till 6pm. We had family in town, and we were not able to make it till after 3:30 because we had a jam packed schedule. We thought it would be fine since 2.5 hours in the zoo and then more time in the aquarium would be perfect, but NO. The park closes close to 5:15 in some sections. Even the ride operators are done by around 5:30 and stand around talking together. I hope they're not paid till 6:00 because why stand around socializing if you're on the clock?
We loved the zoo overall. It is a small zoo. We did not get to see the whole zoo, which was partially our fault. If we had 2.5 hours instead, like I had planned, we may have been able to see the entire zoo. It was small compared to the Phx zoo, but soooo much better!
