| - Felt like I was having dinner on a cruise ship, except the cost of dinner could have paid for an entire cruise!
The experience was fun, but I don't think I will be back. I will start with the positives. The staff was extremely friendly and the experience was unique. If you do decide to go, request a seat on the lower level, preferably at the window because the entire restaurant rotates. However, if you sit at the second level, you don't rotate and will have the same view your entire dining experience. The food was tasty for the most par. I had the lobster bisque which was very good and rich and my husband had the cesar salad which was pretty large and yummy. The bread basket was also good (but they never came by to refill or even offer to refill it). For dinner, I had the filet which was good, although there really wasn't much to it. I added the Foie gras for $20. (see below for my comments on the foie gras). We ordered the fontina cheese potatoes which was the best menu item we had all night. We did not order dessert because the lemon tart cheesecake which I went into dinner wanting to order, was not on the menu that night. The view was also amazing. It takes an hour and 20 minutes to do one complete loop. They time the dining perfectly because we were in and out in the hour and 20. We also came 30 minutes before sunset which was perfect because it was fun to see the valley during the daylight and the lights of the strip once the sun set.
Negatives: I literally felt like I was on a cruise ship. From the cheesy stratosphere olive pick in my martini to the waiter's name pins that had their country of origin to the menus and to the bathrooms- I could have sworn I was on a boat. The problem is for the cost of our dinner, we literally could have booked a four day cruise to Mexico! My other issue was the attentiveness of the service. Everyone was very friendly, but no one ever asked if I wanted another martini until I was halfway done with my entrée (my drink was empty since the appetizer portion) nor did they refill our bread basket. Also, my husband and I were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and indicated as much on our reservation. Now, I am not looking for freebies as I would have ordered the lemon tart cheesecake if it were on the menu, but they did not offer us a celebratory complimentary dessert, which I thought was in bad form. The foie gras was literally the worst I have ever had. There was something wrong with it for sure or it was just prepared terribly. The taste wasn't the only problem. I paid for it as an add-on to my filet for an additional $20. However, the foie gras was also an appetizer on the menu. The appetizer consisted of the foie gras, some sort of jam, and brioche. The cost of the appetizer was also $20! I literally got two bites of foie gras on my steak for the same price.
There are so many better steak houses on the strip. The only reason to choose Top of the World over SW steakhouse, Joes, Capital Grille, etc. is because of the view. However, if you want to experience the view, pay $20 to go up to the observation deck or Sky Lounge for a drink and save your money and go out to a nice dinner on the strip after.
