Compared to some other airports (and I have been in some really nice ones like Dubai and some not so nice ones like the one in Pakistan) this is ok. To be honest..for such a great city I expect more. Some great things are that now when you clear customs (as a resident anyways) the process is pretty much electronic...put in your passport, slide through your declaration card and it spits out a receipt of sorts with number that then you present to the customs officer - and depending on the info on the receipt then you get directed to proceed or get asked more questions. So simple and easy. My only suggestion would be to add about another 20-30 of these (maybe in the works) as basically waited in line for like 2 minutes as opposed to like 15-30 min when a whole plane load of people come off. There is also tablets at the waiting areas where you can order food and play games (keep the kiddies occupied!) and you can charge you phones
Some improvements could be that they need better food places/cafes. When you go to LGA, JFK there are a ton of places to eat, shop. Here not so much, but better in the last few years. They could also put in some lounge type sitting areas - with reclining areas - mini sleep pods. That would be nice - not everything should be for the sky lounge areas. Also, they seriously need to improve that area from de-boarding and walking to customs. After the 30min trek (seriously) and sweating like a pig...I think it is ridiculous. What a wasted amount of space and money! at least put in a tram or something for the elderly or those that are tired.
If I have a choice, I always try and get Porter instead - first class service regardless of price
