  • Disclaimer: I've been using Aveda products and frequently visiting their salons for years. Having short hair, I get haircuts on a monthly basis so that I don't look like a shaggy little sheep dog. I suppose it works for the emo kids, but it is certainly not for me. Sometimes, I get annoyed and decide to book a last minute appointment. In this case, random searching led me to Salon Rituals, because it was near to me at the time and was offering a discount through Yelp. The experience was disappointing from start to finish. I should have known by the way the male receptionist answered the phone. He was curt, and asked me when I would want to come in (later that day, as it turned out). He took my name and number and hung up. I'm used to being asked my preferences, or what kind of haircut I prefer so that at least I could be matched with a stylist that would fit my needs. I figured that perhaps it was just because it was a little last minute, and shrugged it off. When I got to the salon four hours later, I wasn't greeted or acknowledged for a few minutes. While the lack of friendly nuances didn't break the deal, it certainly didn't help. After a bit (and the place was empty), I was shown to my stylist, Jessica P. She took me back and washed my hair, though with none of the usual Aveda hair massaging techniques. It was brisk, but not uncomfortable. I was a little saddened by this. Just because my hair is short, doesn't mean I don't like the attention. Rookie mistake. She ushered me back to her chair and asked me what I wanted. She listened and went to work. She didn't exactly follow what I had told her, and her techniques were a little rough around the edges. Chatter was minimal, so it was a very long haircut appointment. She styled it, making me look like a forty-year-old soccer mom. *facepalm* When I went to check out, the receptionist (who may have been a stylist, who knows) didn't include the advertised Yelp discount. I asked him about it and he said that he didn't even know what Yelp was. Fail. Finally, he took the money off, but he was rather indignant about it. Technically, there was nothing wrong with the haircut itself (which I discovered after restyling it the next morning). But the entire experience was poor. I hate leaving one star reviews, but I will never subject myself to this place again. I would sooner go to the Super Cuts in the same plaza and I don't think that will happen either.
