  • IMO: This review in in regards to Attorney Lisa Szyc who apparently handles family law at this office. I went to talk to her in regards to handling a divorce case. She never had me fill out any sort of "contract" with her office in regards to the actual charges associated with her fees. She wrote on my inake form(which I guess she considers a contract) that she would charge $600 +$3500 and +$1500 if case goes to trial. Well, we had discussed that she would charge $600 to file the divorce and attend a TPO hearing the next week in regards to my case. I paid $1500 in good faith that she would be handling my case to the end. She did file the divorce papers. She did come to my TPO hearing. She failed to communicate with me on exactly what would happen at the TPO. She agreed to an extension for 6 months on a completely ridiculous restraining order my husband had filed against me. This not only placed me out of my home, but she also agreed to me paying HALF of all the household bills for that residence even though I did not live there. My husband makes a significant amount more money than me. I was completely blown off my feet that she did not speak to me in regards to this before this hearing. I immediately retained different counsel to continue to represent me for the rest of my divorce as it was very clear she did not know what she was doing. My husbands attorney Mike Warhola has been in the business say 30 years and she had no idea who he even was.. RED FLAG. So, when I go to ask her for my $800 refund, as she was not going to handle my divorce case. She proceeds to send me a bill for a bunch of hourly charges for "behind the scenes" work that she did on my case when it was obvious from how un prepared she was that she did nothing on my case. I have now had to dispute my card charges, filed a complaint with the NV Bar Association and will end up taking her to small claims court. I even tried to be reasonable and negotiate a fair amount as to what she thought was fair and she refused. Stay away from this woman and get a great lawyer that knows what they are doing so you don't get screwed like I did.
