  • I had a chance to stay here during Fan Expo earlier in the year, and definitely think I had an "a-ok" experience - not awful, not perfect, but ok. First, the good. I loved our room. I didn't book the room - a family member who traveled with me did - but I'm pretty sure we got our top-notch suite at a discount price. I admittedly forget if it was because we were in town for the convention or because of a booking error, but no matter what the reason was, the price for our room was cheaper than usual. And as someone who's used to staying at a Holiday Inn I was super impressed with the suite we got. It was spacious and comfortable, and came complete with a living room and even a hot tub in the bedroom - which came in handy after standing and walking for almost 12 hours at Fan Expo, I have to say. The bed was as comfortable as any hotel bed ever is to me (not very), but I slept very well nonetheless. By the way, the lobby area in this hotel is beautiful - lots of space, lots of seating, very comfortable and lovely all around. There's also a door that leads to a little "park"-like area in the back of the lobby, which you can clearly see since it's surrounded in glass. It was a really lovely addition since this area of Toronto is not exactly the greenest of spots, and it offered a quiet place to read or sit and listen to the flowing water they had set up in the area. Now, for the bad: I experienced constant wi-fi problems during my stay. And when I say constant, I mean constant. Honestly even at a cheap hotel the number of error messages I got would have been pretty ridiculous, but considering the price of this hotel they should really have a better wi-fi system in place in 2014. And since I don't live in Canada, no wi-fi meant no phone availability at all. Very disappointing and frustrating. We weren't super impressed by the food options, either. On our first day we ate in a restaurant in the lobby that we thought was free for guests. Unfortunately we were wrong about that, and even more disappointing was the "meh" breakfast complete with burned pancakes that we got there. The second day of our stay we went to the actual free breakfast for guests (which was high up on the 40-something-th floor, not in the lobby like we'd been originally told) and we found it to be pretty hectic. The view in this dining area was dead drop gorgeous, for sure, but the breakfast spread was honestly unimpressive. Kudos to the staff for trying to keep things stocked, but between the crowd of people and the broken toasters, there were long lines just for pieces of bread and it was impossible for anyone to keep the area crumb-free. There were a lot of sticky spots from various spills, too. Definitely not the best breakfast ever. 3 stars is definitely a fair assessment of the place based on my experience - sure the room was an excellent treat and we got it at a reasonable price, but the difficulties with wi-fi, food and general clarity about where guests should go for what kept my stay from being above average.
