Do you consider Valentine's Day to be a Holiday? Please Vote YES or NO...
Last night, my wife and I went to Red Rock Casino and had dinner at the Grand Cafe. We were sent in the mail for Players Card holders a $10 off coupon - expires Feb 28th - valid Monday through Thursday and not on Holidays.
After we ate and presented the coupon when checking out, the cashier slid the coupon back at me and rudely said "Coupons are not vaild on Holidays". I responded "Valentine's Day is not a holiday." She said I'll get the manager - obviously not the first time she heard this.
Anyway, this young man in a suit appears and says the same thing. He said he understood what I was saying, but that Stations Casinos considers this a holiday and refused to reconsider. He obviously did not have the authority or interest in changing company policy. I asked to speak with his boss, but they all had left for the day. Not unusual since it was now about 7:00pm.
I refused to pay and gave him my name, telephone, address and email (I forgot to give him my players card ID - but they can look it up if they need to) and asked that I hear from someone to talk to about this. Nothing so far...
I have looked on Wikipedia for a list of holidays and can't seem to find Valentine's Day listed as a holiday. I did find President's Day next Monday, MLK's birthday and all the other "famous" ones. I don't know of any companies, schools, banks or government offices that observe Valentine's day as a holiday. I however did find some calendars that show observances of various things almost for every day of the year. Maybe Station Casinos can declare these holidays too so they don't have to honor their offers to their customers.
I really don't feel the "Love" from Station Casinos since their TV ads say "Station Casinos Love Locals". Especially on the day to express "Love."
What do you think?
