The gelato at La Paloma reminds me of a trip to a gelateria in Italy, but only so far as the gelato itself is concerned. $5 for a small, $6.50 for a medium makes the trip an occasional treat rather than a regular destination.
However, the quality of the gelato explains the price tag, to an extent. The fruit flavours tend to let me down generally, but nut, chocolate and dessert-types are better than excellent. Coffee has been top notch as well and more comparatively priced.
The atmosphere is loud; generally a mixture of kids with their parents and older folks. Frequently appears to be busier than it actually is: large groups standing outside doesn't mean the place is packed inside.
Worth a trip if you need either or both of a flashback or a creamy fix.
