  • Consider this long list of pros and cons curated from my year of using this service (a couple of years ago now) Pros: If you're about to have a kid and are considering cloth diapers, a diaper service is a great way to try it out without the commitment of spending hundreds on diapering supplies. And when you're a new parent, keeping on top of basic things like showering and eating can be difficult enough; the extra convenience of being able to throw the diapers on the porch and have someone pick them up and launder them and supply clean ones every week is really invaluable. And as your kid is growing, you're trading out small diapers and covers for larger ones at no cost instead of having to shell out bucks for a whole new set of larger items. For my family, this was definitely the best and only way to do cloth diapering. Cons: We found the people at Mother Nature's to be extremely difficult to get ahold of. there was a lot of phone tag and if you made a request to them they would often get it wrong or not follow through at all. It was also very difficult to maintain the right number of diapers in our order, and every time it changed (gradually babies use fewer and fewer) there would be a several weeks long transition period in which we got ridiculously low counts of diapers in our order and had to use disposables. Then they would expect us to call them every week with updates on our diapers counts, which was impossible b/c they never answer the phone. And, our drop-off was super early Monday morning so there was no chance of phoning them over the weekend and changing our order in time. Actually for many months our order was way too high -- we were paying for 90 but only needed about 60/week -- because we dreaded the hassle of changing our order. After we finally lowered our order, our weekly deliveries were so low (maybe 30/week when we were paying for 60) we ended up using disposables half the time. Eventually the amount of effort that it took on a weekly basis compelled us to ditch the diaper service and switch entirely to disposables.
