| - Like most people, social media definitely influenced me to visit Recess. I kept seeing these fish-shaped cones (or what I thought were cones) all over my feed and I knew I had to try it. I was stoked when I saw that a place in the valley finally offered them!
Unfortunately, the Taiyaki didn't live up to my expectations or the hype at all. I ordered the green tea Taiyaki with green tea and vanilla swirl custard on top. I also opted for the Nutella filling inside of the Taiyaki. When I received my Taiyaki, I didn't expect it to be so small! They look so much bigger on the Gram! Anyways, the Taiyaki itself was too cakey, almost like a cupcake, but a little more firm. Although it was small in size, there was no way I could finish it. It was too much to chew. The green tea and vanilla swirl custard was good... Super rich! It wasn't too sweet, which I liked. My sister ordered the taro Taiyaki and said that there wasn't much taro flavor. I probably wouldn't order the Taiyaki again, but I'm glad I tried it.
We also ordered a Vietnamese coffee and it tasted like a regular iced coffee. A little disappointed, but hey, they specialize in desserts, not coffee.
The staff was extremely friendly and offered to let us sample the different flavors of Italian ice with no hesitation! I'll have to come back and give Recess another go... The Mangonada looks amazing!
