| - I loved opening night of the film festival! I had the pleasure of attending with my friend / Community Manager Lauren, and had a blast!
The film shown was "California Typewriter." When I first heard about the movie, I thought the subject was interesting because most people don't really give more than a thought or two about typewriters. After seeing the movie though, I'm definitely putting a typewriter on my Christmas list! The film was beautifully produced and premised around several different storylines of people who have had an impact on their lives from typewriters. Tom Hanks and John Mayer were actually featured, which was really cool because I didn't realize both of them were such typewriter enthusiasts. As the movie progressed, it became less about typewriters and more about the interesting lives of the people featured in the movie. It's an incredible skill to have to take something ordinary like a typewriter and turn it into something extraordinary and beautiful, and this film does just that. Bravo!
Lauren and I met the Director afterwards at an after party, and he was extremely friendly and kind! It was very cool to be able to speak with the man behind the scenes. The food at the afterparty was also delicious! I had sushi, asparagus, cheese and bread. Before leaving I spotted a table that had several different typewriters on it for guests to type a love note to CIFF. I had never actually used a typewriter before, and it was definitely a learning experience. It actually was a little more complicated than I would have originally anticipated, but I really enjoyed the experience. I love CIFF, and can't wait to go back to see more films!
