After receiving a personal call from the owner of Henderson Pet Resort I decided to increase my rating.
She sincerely apologized for my dachshund having a foul smell on him at the time of pick up. I appreciated her quick response and her concern with my unhappiness. She reassured me that it would never happen again and that she would speak to her staff about missing/not noticing the odor from my little guy.
I'm changing my review because I appreciated her quick response and willingness to try and make things right. She did offer to groom both my dogs for free, but I declined at this time.
I recently boarded my briard and dachshund at HPR. After reading some great reviews, I really wanted to be excited about this place. Unfortunately, I can't rate this place a 5 star like others. Everything seemed to be great until I got my fur babies in the car and was disgusted by the smell on my little dog. I thought it was a little odd that they called me the day before and asked if they could bathe my two dogs because they smelled. My dogs were just groomed prior to taking them in there. I did agree to pay for the larger dog, but did question why they smelled. The female on the phone said they were just sweaty. No dog should smell like that from a 5 night stay. It was a combination of pee and something else. Their toys smelled the same way. (Which I was told they wash bedding and toys everyday, apparently that's not true!) This is unacceptable, we should pick our fur babies up the same way they were dropped off. If they sat in pee, then it should be the resorts responsibility to clean them up properly. It's bad customer service turn over a dog and their toys smelling that bad.
I also wasn't 100% satisfied with the grooming service for my briard. Briard's undercoat can mat easy when wet. They must be combed with a de-matting comb before and after. After bathing my little dog immediately I decided to comb through my briard and noticed she had several mats. If she was groomed probably she wouldn't have mats that I had to work out. I really do question if they care. Disappointed customer!
