| - First off, let's talk about what I really enjoy about this spot. I love love their setup: open kitchen and bar, cute outdoor patio with hanging string lights, pet-friendly, a decent amount of baked goods, craft beer and wine bottles up front. I also like the suki's bowl on their menu - very well-thought and flavor-focused combination of ingredients. They also have friendly and attentive staff.
Despite the fact that this location has so much potential, I think they can do better with the menu. First time here, I ordered a bowl of clam chowder on their special of the day menu since I wasn't really hungry. It was average from the presentation to the taste. Second time around, I settled for an order of croque madame topped with over medium egg, side order of fresh melons and extra crispy hash browns. I also got an iced toddy.
It was nice of the server to leave me (a little bit too much) room and a side of classic syrup so I can customize my toddy. The food took a while to come out yet everything was at room temperature when they got to my table. Although the egg was cooked perfectly, my extra crispy hash browns was mostly soft and soggy :(. Croque madame was also average. Considering it was my first time trying croque madame, I can't tell if this is exactly how it supposed to be and I just happen to not liking it; or I can get better croque madame somewhere else. Fresh melons were cool and sweet, though!
Overall, there are few things I like about this place, especially their decor. There are also basic things I can care less for, that they can improve on. The 3 stars were given for the layout, service, and suki's bowl.
