Since this is also a Budget Rental Truck location I rented a truck for a move across the country. While I might have my issues with Budget as a rental company, the incompetence and lack of professionalism at this location is mind boggling...
When I first walked in the young woman at the desk said "What's up?" instead of literally any other greeting that would be considered appropriate for a customer walking in. I told her I had a reservation and she responded that they didn't have the size of truck I requested. I offered to show my reservation numbers and she laughed at me and said she was kidding and to have a seat to wait on the actual employee that would help me with the truck. That employee was nicer despite the Filiberto's food wrappers and Pokémon Go app running on his cell phone at his work station. He got my info pulled up and went to get my truck. I had thought I would be getting the nice new looking one out in front of the building. Instead he pulled up in a giant rust can with chunks of tires missing and 204,000 miles on it. I asked him if I need to know anything about the truck before I went on my cross-country journey or if any if the issues I spotted on the outside were of consequence. His response was to call the number on my contract if I have problems...I should have requested the nice truck (my fault for not doing so) but he seemed nice and so I trusted him.
Fast forward to the trip, I barely made it to Albuquerque, NM. I had engine trouble/loss of power/shifting issues. We got a mechanic out to look at it and he found that the transmission fluid was three quarts low and the power steering fluid was also almost gone!!! He said the fluids should help, but just 50 miles later I could not get the truck to go faster than 15mph. A new mechanic looked at it and said the transmission was completely shot and should not be driven at all. SO WHY WAS I GIVEN THIS TRUCK TO DRIVE ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!!
We spent the whole day getting Budget to get their act together and get a tow truck. Now we get to unload the busted truck and reload a new one (hopefully). Multiple days of our move have been lost because of incompetent and inconsiderate business practices. Thank goodness I'm not planning on coming back.
