Sandman is probably my recommended hotel choice if you're driving and want free parking. You want free parking, but let's face it, you're in Montreal and driving is a nightmare...well, you get free parking and access to the metro across the street! No need to drive into the city unless you're going to a location completely out of the way.
The hotel doesn't look too modern and new, but for one free night (hotels.com) and ~$80 the other night, I shouldn't be expecting much. For what it's worth, it was probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in, and I travel quite a bit.
The rooms were decently spacious, and it was laid out quite well for my family. The bathroom had most of the necessities, the only thing not existing being a shower cap (which also didn't exist in the concierge...first time that happened). The toilet bowl flushes a little slow, but that's a minor issue overall. Everything else about the rooms was decent to my satisfaction.
Service and the concierge was excellent, and everyone there speaks perfect French and English. They're also knowledgeable about the metro, so if you have any questions on how to travel to the city, stop by the concierge!
Overall if I'm driving to Montreal, I'll definitely stay here again. Obviously if you're not driving you would be staying in the city, but for what it's worth this hotel is of excellent value.
