| - Killer, fresh and responsibly priced - is how I used describe Hana many years ago, when it was hard to find a true reflection solid sushi/sashimi joint.
I spearfish/fish as a hobby....a lot. I live in Miami and my front porch is the ocean.
Sadly, Hana lost it's soul. It's morphed to become another common run of the mill middle-America tragedy.
Overpriced, low quality and sadly the service has dropped off the face of the planet.
If you're a true fresh sushi/sashimi lover, I would skip the hype and save your money for lunch at Chula in Scottsdale..... Unless you're into an American version of dynamite rolls packed with mayo and siracha, several layers of rice, completely lacking any raw fish flavors of the sea....WAIT...still don't waste your time. Head to your nearest grocery store and buy the pre-made boxes of manufactured scraps stacked in the grab-n-go fridge.
Sorry for the candid review, but when I lived in the Valley many years ago I was a regular, raved about the place and it sucks when restaurants conform and transform to fake versions of their original authenticity. Also, disappointed in New Times pallette and recent positive reviews. They themselves have been stuck in the desert too long.
People appreciate true love and real food. I know buying power is tough when you only have one restaurant, but reach out to Chula, they sell amazing fresh fish. Get back in touch with your roots. Amazing fresh fish - reasonably priced.
