So.... it was one of those days.... my friend and I had tried to go to some 4 different Tempe restaurants to find that they were closed (it was around 3 pm). Who knew that was a thing? ( not me obviously). So we found Gangnam sushi and were excited because they were open! It was a Friday afternoon but apparently the worst time to come to this restaurant for several reasons:
1. Lunch had ended 2-3 minutes ago
2. There is no happy hour on Friday... booooo.
3. They were not busy which somehow translated in the service being horrifically bad.
We were pretty bummed to have missed any potential for food specials, but carried on. I ordered the spicy tofu soup with 'meat' and an order of inari. My friend ordered a couple of rolls... one of which was baked (?!?!). I'm not sure how we got on the subject, but the waitress and I were discussing the way inari come and she told me they serve theirs differently than everyone else....she said it only had a little bit of tofu.... I decided to try it anyway. So the inari come out and they are EXACTLY the way they are at every other restaurant (little fried tofu pockets filled with rice). Weird. The soup I had was very tasty and filling, though next time I would probably skip the meat... it wasn't necessary and didn't add much to the dish. The tofu and egg and spicy broth was excellent. My friend's rolls were fairly standard. So here comes the sad part.... we ended up waiting for about 20 minutes for our check... don't ask me how, but we could not get anyone's attention. There were literally 2 tables full in the whole restaurant. The staff were all sitting around playing on their phones. We literally had to get up and ask for the check at the sushi bar. Ugh. I would come back for the food if I were in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for a return visit.
