| - Piper's Pub is one of my favorite bars on the South Side, in fact it may be my favorite place to come if I actually venture here.
As you walk, there is a long bar down the left hand side and a few tables along the back wall. It is not an overly huge space and it can easily get crowded. In the back of the restaurant there are a bunch of tables for dining and beverage consumption purposes. The place gets crowded at night and during futbol matches. Sunday Brunch is always crazy there, so if you have visions of going there for brunch, be prepared to wait.
Let's get down to my favorite part of this place. It is hands down the beverage menu. I really really really enjoy Whiskey (Whisky) and beer and Pipers delivers on both. They carry a lot of Whiskey from Scotland (all areas), Ireland, the USA and Canada. They also serve Whiskey from PA. As for beer, they have over 30+ beers on tap plus two brews on cask. They show a lot of love for the state of PA and locally when it comes to beer. In addition, they provide lots of English and Irish brews. The beer is goes across numerous styles (Stouts, IPA's, Brown Ales, Scotch Ales, Lagers, Porters, Wheat beers, Hefeweizens...etc. They also over ciders and mead. The beverage menu is extremely solid.
I have to admit I have not eaten here too often. When I have eaten here, I have downright loved it. I am not very original when I order, I stick to my staples of Bangers and Mash or the Shepherds Pie. Both are delicious and the prices are ridiculously good. It is really good comfort food.
The service here is always spot on. All the bartenders really know their stuff when it comes to beers and whiskey.
If you are looking for a great little place on the South Side, Pipers is a must visit. If you are able to get in and get a seat, you will not be disappointed.
