| - I ate here for the first time on "daddy's night out" after hearing about this place for as long as I can remember. I would give it three-and-half stars instead of three if I knew how because it's good -- not the best steakhouse in the world by a long shot, but decent and worth a visit.
I had a gin and tonic that could have been mixed a little better. Instead of some warm, fresh bread to start your meal, you're given a basket of Lance crackers and something that resembles cheese whiz. Oh well, you can live with that.
I ordered the ribeye medium rare, with sides of rice pilaf and asparagus. The meat was almost (almost) perfect -- a nice, thick cut; well seasoned, perfectly cooked, juicy and tasty. My only quibble was that a decent chunk of this cut had too much gristle in it. The rice pilaf was only average -- too clumpy, not enough flavor (was there anything in there except rice? No onions?). The asparagus was better -- a BIG helping, tasty and not overcooked.
The service was good, maybe because I got there fairly late on a weeknight and the place wasn't too packed. Most of the servers were busy vacuuming the floor and setting things up for the next day.
My bill came to $50 -- not too bad considering the size of the ribeye and the massive side of asparagus.
I would recommend this place as a decent spot to get good food with a very old-school, informal vibe.
