I've been to this location several times throughout most of my life ever since I was in university. This is one of my favorite hangout places in the entertainment district of Toronto. The most recent time I was here was about 2 weeks ago with my bestie to watch Handel's Messiah performed by Toronto Symphony Orchestra and my experience here was just as amazing as I have always remembered it. Steubenville Toronto also hosted their 2015 weekend youth conference here back in August and the venue was well-suited for their needs as well. The Roy Thomson Hall is designed to be a multi-purpose venue that can accommodate all event types whether it be a concert performance or a conference. It has a very modern and trendy appearance that a lot of venues in downtown Ontario lack. They have a connecting indoor entrance to the subway, which is convenient, especially during cold winters when you don't want to walk outside. The setup is a round circular amphitheater, which makes it easy to see the stage no matter where you sit. The acoustics in this hall are excellent too and there are television screens available for those who are not seated close to the stage. It's safe to say that they are very up-to-date with technology. There are washrooms located on every floor level to accommodate large crowds.
When I came here in August for Steubenville, I got to see their behind-the-scenes areas since I was a conference volunteer and it is very spacious. The dressing room is huge and has comfy couches and a big-screen TV so it was nice to relax in this room during my breaks. When going back stage however, just make sure you make note of certain landmarks in this area (if you're like me who has poor navigation skills) because I got lost a few times when trying to leave to go back to the main floor.
When I came here 2 weeks ago to see Messiah, I finally tried their concession stand for the first time and I was impressed. I ordered a bottle of water and it looked very fancy that you could mistaken it for a reusable water bottle. Pricing is on the expensive side but that is expected for high quality water. Also, the staff are always very friendly and helpful, especially when we have trouble locating our seats since there are so many seating areas and more than one possible way to enter the auditorium itself.
If I were hosting an event or concert in Toronto, this is one place I would definitely consider.
