I was here briefly when my cousin Tom passed away in July 2008. When I came back in April 2009 I asked my cousin where my Uncle and Aunt (her parents) were buried. With all the grave-hopping I have done in Indiana and other states it struck me as odd that I'd never gone to see their graves in all the years they'd been gone and I'd been coming to Chandler to see my parents. She drove me there. This cemetery must have started up in the mid to late '60's as her mother was interred in a mausoleum in Tempe in 1960 when Chandler didn't have their own memorial park. But some of the gravestones were from the late '60's I think. I saw my Uncle Gail and cousin Tom's burial spots and other older folks who had passed away but who I remembered meeting over the years.
Overall I was not too impressed with the appearance last April. It was kind of scraggly and desert-y, uneven ground, dusty. Most of that can't be helped as it IS in the desert, after all. I was just glad my parents weren't there but in a beautiful little cemetery in Indiana next to my maternal grandparents. Good call, Dad.
The grounds did look a little better when I was there about a month ago showing my middle daughter where her AZ relatives are buried. And my cousin was able to get her mother's remains transferred to this location to rest next to my uncle's. Very appropriate.
