One of the hidden gems of Pittsburgh! It only has weekend hours and it shares an entryway with Pamela's diner so it's often overlooked but it's a great place to grab brunch without having to bother with lines. The place is never more than half full when we go so the waiters are responsive and the place is easy to talk in.
Food: EVERYTHING is good at NU Jewish bistro. You get access to their nosh table when you order an entree which is literally a buffet of homemade baked goods and finger foods. What is amazing is the detail spent on each of the dishes. You see mini bagels and think 'whatevs' but they are some of the best plain bagels I've had and pair well with their homemade jams. The coconut shrimp, latkes hush puppies, mac n cheese, corn muffins and kuchen cake are all very well-executed and let you pick between sweet and savory options depending on your mood. I highly recommend trying stuff you normally wouldn't try because even the simple stuff is amazing. As for entrees, I consistently find myself getting the Reuben with extra kraut because it's just superb. The non-marbled rye is not overpowering and always toasted and buttered to perfection. The corned beef is very flavorful and comes out warm, tender, and slightly caramelized. Unlike smallman deli, their russian dressing isn't sweet and is just creamy and tangy which I prefer. We've had the brisket and eggs which is a little simpler, just slab of tender and savory brisket and eggs as described. The same delicious brisket is featured in their dip sandwich however I found the horseradish cream sauce too heavy and overpowering to have regularly. The shakshuka and benny options are nice well-rounded dishes but definitely on the lighter side.
Overall NU Jewish bistro is a great place to try if you've never been or if you want a chef-quality brunch without the brunch crowd. Highly recommended!
