  • First, I'd like to say that I am Korean, so I have a very discriminating palate when it comes to the food. I've gone to many Korean restaurants in town and still haven't found anything phenomenal, but most are not bad. This place was mediocre with respect to the flavor of food, but the service was excellent. The adashi and ajuma who run this place are very kind and hospitable. It is located in Green Valley on the corner of the Trader Joe's shopping center. The sign has a different name though from the past asian joint. My husband and I decided to try this spot over our usual because it is a tad closer to us. The menu is very simple and each dish runs roughly $8. I was a little confused because they are set up as lunch and dinner dishes; however, some are more like appetizers. I ordered kalbi and my husband ordered a mix of korean pancake, battered fish and meat patties. It took a bit to get our food and we were the only people in the place, but adashi (older gentleman) offered us a soup appetizer and also jap chae. The soup was a tad bland, but the jap chae was delicious. When our main meals arrived, the presentation was nice. The kalbi was served on a hot stone and smelled scrumptious. I like some fat on my kalbi because it tastes better to me, but this dish was full of very hard fat, so it wasn't appetizing, sadly. I believe it is because the meat quality was lacking. My husband's lunch plate was less than stellar. The pancake was ok, but the fish was soggy and the meat patties were undercooked. I think the meat patties would have been delicious though had they been cooked fully. As for the banchan, it was very sour. I actually prefer my kimchi when it starts to sour, but this was too far gone. Too much for restaurant serving purposes in my opinion. They should rotate it more often or make less of it at one time to help keep it fresh. The kimchi was definitely at the point of making jigae and very sour jigae at that. For Americans who don't know kimchi, I think it would scare them away from trying it again. It isn't a good representation of kimchi in the least. Sadly, we won't return simply because Jun's on eastern is much better quality for the same/similar price and offers a large assortment of fresh banchan. The owners are super nice though!
