It's been a while since I've been in Rock Bottom but I was uptown for the Shriners parade on July 4th and figured this was a good place to find refreshment on a hot day.
The restaurant has limited hours right now because they are in the process of remodeling so I had to visit them after the parade instead of before.
Anyway, I started out with sampling their beers. For a chain brewery, these aren't too bad. The Belgian white was very refreshing and had a wheaty flavor. The Hoppy Red ale was quite good and better than a normal red and then I moved up to the IPA which also had a smooth hoppy taste to it.
As for food, I just wanted something light so I ordered an appetizer...the Pepper Jack Chicken Nachos. Well light isn't what I would call this. The plate was huge and came with sides of salsa, sour cream and guacamole. In the nachos, there were sliced onions which often seemed a bit too large. Also the chicken was in large pieces and I think would have been better with smaller either shredded chicken or ground chicken. The chicken was also very dry. I'd also expect a little spice from something that had sliced jalapenos and pepper jack cheese but there wasn't any. The salsa wasn't even spicy and it seemed like more of an italian chunky marinara sauce than a mexican salsa. But hey the guac was good, if that's any consolation.
Service-wise, I sat at the bar and both of the bartenders were friendly and helpful.
So for beer, they get a 4. for Service, they get a 4. But for food, they get a 2. And this averages out to slightly better than a 3.
