| - While not my first time, this past weekend at the Cosmo was one for the books. I was not completely sure what to expect in the Hammam Soap Ritual at Sahra Spa and Hammam as I'd only previously done massages here... but I assure you that you will NOT be let down. I opted for a sort of pick-2 combo package and then added on another massage experience for a solid three hours of unadulterated pure bliss. I had the pleasure of experiencing Bernard for the entire visit, and I can tell you that for the first time in my life, I felt it more than appropriate, in fact almost necessary to add to the standard gratuity. He was just that good.
The Hammam soap ritual may seem a bit much for the average guy, but the degree of pampering and attention to detail is amazing. You're lying on a massive heated marble slab (they spared NO expense here) as the therapist (again, ask for Bernard!) scrubs you head-to-toe with the Turkish equivalent of a loofa... I believe called a Kese Mitt which you take with you afterwards. After this thorough exfoliation, Bernard uses a super high-tech bubble maker ;) to cover your entire body in lush thick giant bubbles which feels amazing. But honestly, the feeling of large amounts of perfect temperature water being poured over you from two large bowls is not to be understated. You've never felt anything like it. A 10 minute soak in the most intense steam room you've even been in opens your pores for the tangerine fig butter moisturizing to wrap it all up. Mind you, this is merely phase one of the Sahra Select (pick two or three) combo package...
On to a more traditional massage room for a Balance and Harmony Massage. I opted to add on a Gentleman's Muscle Soothing Massage as well, and Bernard was more than happy to combine these two experiences into a single two hour session instead. The man is an absolute artist and clearly knows a thing or two about anatomy, the human body, and its muscles... The direction of these muscles and their individual properties is key to a proper massage experience, and you'd think that Bernard had some sort of x-ray vision to see where your problems may lie. With a brief explanation of what I felt I wanted, he went to it and left me feeling more stress-free and relaxed than I can ever recall. I felt like a perfectly cooked noodle at the end - on cloud nine for sure, not wanting to leave.
Your treatment grants you access to the spa and all of its amenities for the remainder of the day. These include a rather impressive locker room, a huge hot tub with a really cool waterfall feature, a large steam room and cool mist room, a traditional sauna, plenty of areas to lounge about and some really great snacks and juices and fruit-infused waters.
If you're looking for a little something of a true pampering experience, do visit the Sahra Spa and Hammam at the Cosmopolitan. I promise you will NOT be disappointed. For a little something extra, I'd highly recommend Bernard as your therapist, but I'm sure they have many talented folks working there. I just lucked out to get one of the best. Next time, I'll have to opt for the top-of-line Moroccan Journey treatment in the Hammam. I can't wait to get back!
