| - This was my first time visiting this garden so I really had no idea what to expect.
My visit was simply so I could view their pond. I have these grand delusions (yes, that was written on purpose) of converting our pool to a pond. So anyway, I needed to get some ideas and figured their huge pond should give me a few. Also, I understood a local pond club (yep, there is such a thing -who knew?!) helped to build or maybe just landscape the pond, so I had to check out the local talent.
It was the Opening Day Celebration and I decided to take advantage of this special occasion. Auction, drummers and other special events to welcome visitors back to the garden.
I'll tell you my navigator wasn't so ideal in getting me there without driving in circles.
Honestly, I had no idea where this place was located.
The parking lot was small and finding a close parking spot within a reasonable walking distance was also a challenge due to this day being a special occasion. I suspect they don't normally have so many visitors on the average day.
Because they're still under construction, a portion of the pond is still in the works, we were given a discount of $1 on admission.
The garden is definitely picturesque, even with the huge looming condo which has been built snug along the Southern perimeter of the property.
Plenty of lovely photo op locations. Pretty flower garden was in bloom, wildlife (Mallard ducks), the Koi, the waterfall, art and tea house along the path added to the serene environment.
A quick escape from city life, a simple date or time spent with friends for a leisurely stroll, guest in town, or if you're simply in the downtown area -check this place out.
There's a First Friday deal. Ro Ho En hosts Free Artlink Events, open to the public, on the First Friday of every month during the season, from 4 p.m. to dusk (about 7 p.m.).
An upcoming Moon viewing in October and a Bonsai and Raku Exhibit in November.
Monthly Tea Ceremony.
What I wish they had:
Trees and plants labeled.
Real Swans.
Extended hours. Sheesh, a 7 or 8 a.m. garden visit isn't so unusual.
