  • I'm giving this the "A-OK" * * * with the main penalty being how the MGM properties now are charging for parking, even for hotel guests, which I find especially odd. You'd think they'd at least give free parking to guests. Most (if not all) other Vegas casino hotel properties do not charge for parking, as it seems counter intuitive to attract both locals and visitors. Your first impression upon having to pay to park is a negative experience. Whomever was the business analyst that came up with this concept should have consulted with their marketing, public relations and customer service departments to discuss the pros (more company revenue and profits) and cons (greedy evil empire stigma) of that decision. They already force a "resort fee" which whether you use those amenities or not, you're charged the fee as a mandatory cost, which is odd in that if that's the case, why don't they just roll that price into the room rate (I know why 'tho, it's for marketing and perception of a lower rate that ends up increasing). This hotel had a long like of customers trying to get in early for early check in around 1pm, when standard check-in is at 3pm. The line took an hour to get through. Part of the problem is when you go up to the desk to check in, the folks at the desk then try to continually "upsell" you with upgrades for as little as $20/night more. It feels like a bait/switch hustle of sort. It's part of the reason why the line was so slow (but then again, I'm sure they're not only trying to increase revenue, but also buying time to let the chambermaids get the rooms ready for occupancy and check in these early arrivals). I'm not sure if I like the MGM, I know I don't love it, and I know I can tolerate it (I'd not deny ever staying here again, if the rate was right). I can recommend it to the degree that if you get a good rate, the rooms are nice enough, not suites (unless you pay for a suite), but worth roughly $100/night on weekdays, as the "all in" total (including resort fees, parking fees, taxes, etc.) if you can get that rate and the peer competitors aren't much higher or lower. I say always price / comparision shop, including going directly to other hotels, but also checking the typical Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc. websites too.
