  • So. You're in Vegas. But you're not that big a gambler? What does one do? Throw frickin' Axes! That's what one does! I found this place whilst planning my adventure to Las Vegas. Not sure if it was Yelp or some other Las Vegas website. But I'm super glad I did. Apparently, axe-throwing is a huge sport up in Canada. There are axe throwing leagues and competitions and all sorts of hoopla and fame about the sport. The owner who was Canadian decided to set up shop in Las Vegas as an attempt to introduce Americans to the sport. I'm glad he did, because it's way fun. I was up and about before Vegas woke up, and there were very few people on the street. I already had seen the giant Fire Hydrant(neat), and the Giant Tanker Truck sculpture(bizarre, yet awesome) a bit further down the street. While on Fremont street wondering about breakfast, I followed some signs, and ventured in here to stop in and give it a shot I came into this place and looked around. A friendly Sarah introduced herself and welcomed me to the establishment. I was the only person in here, so after paying my $25, Sarah led me to a chained off lane, and began my axe-throwing lessons. After a few words of safety, and some more words of wisdom, I hurled my first axe. My first axe hit flew straight at the target, but then hit the target with a blunt end. It bounced off the large wooden stump circle and hit the ground with a thud. My second and third axes were similarly clumsy throws, but eventually, my axes were hitting the target with blade sides and sticking more often than not. After another few minutes of throwing axes, Sarah challenged me to an Axe-Throwing game. Basically a large, and probably more deadly version of darts. We each took turns throwing at the targets in the lane. As a handicap, Sarah was throwing with her off hand, a full ten feet behind me. But I won! After the game, Sarah began teaching me axe throwing trick shots. I'd been throwing axes for all of thirty minutes, I was totally up for trick shots. She showed me underhand throws, overhand throws, sideways throws, and even a double axe throw. Holy crap. I love this place. Of course, I wasn't able to pull of any of the trick shots, and eventually resumed just regular axe-throwing. Had I wanted, I could have thrown spears. Had I wanted, I could have thrown shuriken. Had I wanted, I could have even thrown bladed playing cards. But all of these are an upsell of the initial $25 to throw axes. I decided not to branch out and just learn to throw one deadly thing. So ya. Axe Throwing is freakin awesome. If you're in Vegas and looking for some non-gambling things to do....give this a shot...or more accurately, give it a throw. Thank you Sarah and Axehole for an awesome morning experience.
