FOOD
Let me stress that I am not a fish eater. I don't mind some Sushi, but I avoid fish. But, I do LOVE their smoked salmon. It seemed every neighbourhood dinner party had some. Their fish always tastes fresh and does not have a muddy taste like so many farmed fish do. It is not over smoked or mushy.
All due respect to a previous reviewer, but they do have more than just smoked fish. After a decade of getting smoked fish here, I learned they also sell really good caviar.
But to her point, they only have a few products. They are not a restaurant. There is no glass display of the fish products like a deli.
HISTORY
There is a beautiful obituary in 2010 on the founder, Adolfs Kristapsons, in the Toronto Star if you want to know the history.
PARKING
Meter parking on Yonge St. There is often 1 hour free parking on the side streets if you can walk a couple blocks. Paid Green P parking behind Super Pets & Amaya Indian Food across the street (off of Glenforest Rd).
LOCATION
On the west side of Yonge street between Brookdale Ave & Cranbrook Ave.
This store is worth checking out just to see the smallest store I have ever seen. It is easy to miss walking by because it is such a narrow store front. Beautiful salmon sculpture leaping out of the water in the window. Part of the reason it's easy to miss is that the front window is angled towards pedestrians walking south.
HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE
I'd say barely. It's a narrow, old fashioned door. Once inside, it is totally flat so a walker or wheelchair can turn around. No washrooms.
