  • I don't like leaving one-star reviews, but my experience in the past few years with AZ Smiles (formerly Market Street Dental) started out fine, and has spiraled down to dismal. As other people have stated, the staff here is pleasant enough (although employees seem to come and go frequently, and appointments always begin late), but the billing/insurance/claim system is a complete nightmare. Honestly, it's almost laughable to think about what a disaster it is. I can't believe a professional medical business operates this way. I've been coming here for a few years, as I work on Market Street and thought it would be super convenient for me to be able to walk down the street for my dentist appointments. My husband (fiance at the time) had a dental emergency in the summer of 2015 and they were able to get him in quickly. Although they did that, that's when the billing/claims issues started. He and I have NEVER had the same insurance, and yet our billing and claims began coming to us in joint statements as soon as he started going there. It was so confusing. I once had to spend over an hour sitting in their office with one of their employees while she sorted out our account. She kept finding procedures of his that weren't correctly billed to his insurance. She assured me we would then get separate invoices/be on separate accounts. This didn't happen. I kept getting text message alerts on my phone for my husband's appointments and we kept receiving joint bills/invoices. Mailings were addressed to me and contained all of his procedures (Since we've NEVER been on the same insurance...isn't that some sort of HIPAA violation?) Trying to call and talk to someone usually results in leaving a voicemail and waiting for multiple days for someone to contact you. As of this week, they STILL had us as a joint account. Last straw. The woman I talked to a few days ago said she has us separate now, but why should I think this time is any different? My husband is dealing with some issues of them billing his insurance wrong (after telling him he was completely covered to re-do a procedure that they didn't do correctly in the first place...thanks guys) and unfortunately, he still has to sort it out. As for me? I canceled my upcoming appointment and am in the market for a new dentist.
