| - We arrived at this neighborhood, and my girlfriend was scared. There were some questionable people hanging around, and lighting wasn't the best. As I looked around, I heard the "questionable" people speaking perfectly normal Canadian English, and they were hanging out in groups, not loitering. Although the area felt sketchy, we weren't in danger. We walked to the lakefront (steep trail, around the corner and behind the hotel) and met some nice people down at the beach, then walked back, all without incident.
I preface the entire review with this point in case anyone reads negative things about the neighborhood and thinks the hotel will be bad. Not the case. Not at all. For a relatively inexpensive night - given that it's halfway to downtown along a scenic lake - this Days Inn offers modern amenities and an exceptionally quiet stay. I slept like a baby, better than almost any other hotel. The staff were all very friendly and the breakfast had a wide variety of options. The only negative was cleanliness - the bedsheet had a few stains (understandable that this happens sometimes), the bathtub had a lot of brown splotches, some of the wall trim was just hanging there instead of lined up and screwed in. Don't worry, no bugs, no fluids, or this would be a much different review.
For the traveler on a budget who doesn't want an hour's ride into the city and doesn't want airplanes taking off night and day, this is worthy of your consideration.
