After seeing everybody's rave reviews about this place I had to come try it myself. The ice cream is indeed made by a man named Marcus - who is super tall and very friendly. We got here at 7:30 and left around 10:30 and the line was pretty much to the door almost the entire time. It weirdly got the busiest as we were leaving late at night; I guess everybody gets late night ice cream cravings?
I am very conflicted about this review because on the one hand the flavours of the ice cream were delicious. I decided on the Tahitian Vanilla Bean and my friend got the Passionfruit Thai Basil. They both tasted exactly like you would imagine and weren't overly sweet nor did they taste fake. 5/5 for taste.
However, I feel like I can only give them a 2/5 for texture. My vanilla ice cream had noticeable ice chunks in it. It wasn't just one or two ice chunks; they were very frequent and large enough that I could chew them up. I am no expert when it comes to the science of ice cream and I'm sure there are many reasons for why this happened. I would be fine with eating crunchy ice cream if this was a batch that I had churned up myself but this is a $5 cup of ice cream that should be made with professional equipment by professional people who know what they are doing.
I might give them another chance when the hype dies down and the line doesn't go out the door but for now I think I'll stick with Village :(
