  • This was my 2nd visit to the recently opened Pittsburgh Food truck park. It sits next to Millvale Riverfront Park. There are bike trails, kayaking, a riverfront walk, and plenty of places to walk your dog. While parking is plentiful, on a busy day which was during my first visit we had to park 2 lots away from the food trucks since they had just recently opened for Sunday entertainment. They have concerts and family related activities as well. If you find you cannot park on site nearby metered parking is in Millvale itself but it is quite a hike and you have to carefully dodge traffic going on and off of Rt 28. During my first visit there were 3 trucks, a coffee van, and alcoholic beverages provided by the people who run the food truck. Please note you are not allowed to bring alcoholic beverages of your own inside. They also have "corn hole" if you want to play. Dogs are permitted. I liked the setup. I was glad that they have two places where you can actually wash your hands because it can get quite messy. Picnic tables are set up long style and roof covered to help protect you from the elements. The trucks at my first visit included Black box bistro (reviewed separately), Ash and Kris kitchen (Greek and Mediterranean style truck), java Jeffrey, and Chameleon concession's that featured lemonade, smoothies, and chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick to name a few. The bevvies station included various beers along with ciders from both Arsenal and Threadbare cider houses in nearby neighborhoods. Each truck can be a hit or miss depending upon whom you choose. Some of them offer vegetarian options. My husband had a vegetarian gyro from Ash and Kris along with fries. I had a Philly cheese steak hoagie from Black Box bistro. My husband's gyro was fair but I got to sample the fries and they were very good. My hoagie was outstanding! We stopped for lemonade on our way out at Chameleon. It was fresh squeezed with a lemon in it but I found it lacking in flavor. Java Jeffrey's looked like they had a good selection so I definitely plan to check them out. Our 2nd visit was for an all community YELP event. YELP's park preview brought us back to the Food truck park but this time we were able to secure parking right outside. With your $13.00 ticket purchase per person you were entitled to one sample from each of the three food trucks featured and one alcoholic beverage from the host. The trucks featured at that event were Lone Wolf grill, Taquitos, and Curly's tin rizzy ice cream. Yes they sell Leona's famous ice cream sandwiches from Wilkinsburg. The setup was similar some things were moved around. Corn hole was still available to play. We started off with taco samples from Taquitos. I went with the sweet potato vegetarian one which I found lacking in flavor. My husband enjoyed his beef filled one. Lone Wolf was serving barbecue beef and fries. This was very good and my favorite so far. Curly's served up mini cookies filled with different flavored ice creams. These were good but the samples were a bit small to really enjoy it. Believe me if I had not eaten ice cream earlier in the day I would have returned and purchased one of those ice cream sandwiches. My cider from Threadbare was excellent as always and through these people got to learn more about the food truck park itself. I really like the concept and that each week they will post their weekend trucks along with activities either on their webpage or Facebook. A word about entering the area if you are not familiar with it. You must take the Millvale exit off 28 and then bear right as if you were returning southbound. There is a "split" in this road right before the upward ramp to 28 which bears slightly left, under a tunnel and you are there. If you go too far left then you will end up on north 28. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to visit this new food truck park twice and it will make a great place for family fun activities.
