  • I went to Blue Pearl Animal vet after my Golden Retriever wasn't acting right for a few days. He had not been too interested in eating for three days but still eating if I crushed a treat on top of his food. He also had been acting fine, playing with my other dog, urinating, stooling, and drinking normally so I didn't put too much concern in his behavior until Sunday morning. On Sunday, he suddenly was lethargic, mucous membranes were slightly sticky, and his gums were pale. My normal vet wasn't open on Sundays but their office voice message referred to this clinic for emergencies if needed. Upon arrival, the tech came right out to the waiting area and took my beloved Murphy back right away so he could be assessed by the vet while I filled out paperwork. I was then escorted back to a room where an assistant gave me a brief update as to what they were doing for my baby and then notified me that the vet would be in shortly to speak with me. I was greeted by Dr. Brittany Lucchetti who was nothing short of kind, patient, and amazing. She explained what her initial assessment revealed of low BP, tachycardia, low capillary refill, and fluid in his abdomen which was suspected was from internal bleeding of unknown origin. She also discussed what other tests she felt she needed to perform. In addition, she gave me her top ideas as to what was on her differential diagnosis list. I was shocked and in disbelief when she mentioned cancer as her number one. She stated she was not sure because of his young age of 5 but given the symptoms, she was honest and compassionate in her prognosis not looking good for him. After all my questions were answered, the assistant came back and went over all the payment paperwork with me. I was then told I could stay or go home and I could call me in 2 hrs with an update. At noon I called and my worst fears were confirmed. Murphy had hemangiosarcoma and had not only internal bleeding in his belly from most likely a tumor, but the cancer had already spread to his lungs, liver, and spleen. Dr. Lucchetti was so compassionate on the phone explaining his diagnosis and options available for treatment. She was also honest though and that regardless of our choice, it would be extremely difficult to control the bleeding in his belly, if at all, and even with chemo and oncology referral, he only had weeks at best to live. I told her I needed to wait till my husband got done with work but to decide what our decision would be but that I would be over to be with Murphy till he was done. When I arrived about 20 min later, they had a special room waiting for me with a blanket on the floor for Murphy to lay on. They brought me Murphy to the room and let me just be with him with minimal interruptions. They had some paperwork for me to sign but stated it was no rush and they could do it whenever I was ready. My husband met me at the vet shortly there after and Dr. Lucchetti was kind and patient enough to go through everything she told me with my husband showing us the lab result and xray they had performed and what they were seeing on the screen. After hearing all the information, we agreed it would be the most fair to Murphy to let him so he didn't have to suffer any more than he may have been that day. We explained that we did need to go home and get our son so he could say goodbye as well before we proceeded. They completely understood and I stayed behind while my husband went and got my son. While they were gone, they offered me water and anything else they could help with. I just laid with my furry baby till they returned. When they returned, they let us have as much time as we needed until we notified them that we were ready. Dr. Lucchetti came in and explained all the meds she would be administrating to Murphy and that he wouldn't feel any pain but may have a few moments of disorientation. My baby passed peacefully and they let us stay with his body as long as we needed. The medical assistant came in and asked if we would like a paw print of our baby. We said "yes" and I helped her get one. She showed how we could put his tag below the print, and when she realized it was going to be too small to put on the front side, she offered to do another larger print so it would be exactly as I would like. We stayed as long as we liked and never felt rushed to leave. I can't express how amazing they were to my furry baby and my family during this horrible time, even with us not being a regular patient. I would recommend them to anyone needing veterinarian services. I couldn't have asked for a better experience during this difficult time. I even accidentally left Murphy's blanket there on Sunday in all of our grief and I called later that day and they washed it and had it up front for me when I went to pick it up Monday morning. I can't say enough good things about this clinic and Dr. Lucchetti. If you need an ER vet for anything, I recommend them!
