| - I boarded my dog here once and will not return. Prior to boarding, I looked closely at the other unfavorable reviews on this website and tried to be proactive about preventing similar issues. Unfortunately, what others have complained about is true.
I called on the second day to check on my dog and was told he was playing in daycare with the other dogs and was eating and drinking fine. I was surprised to hear he was doing so well because it was his first time in boarding and he is kind of a shy and nervous guy. When I called back 2 days later, I got someone else on the phone who told me my dog hadn't really been eating and asked if they could give him some wet food. He said they hadn't already tried wet food because they didn't know if he had food allergies. But I had WRITTEN down that he didn't have allergies, and they hadn't even tried to call me or told me the truth the first time I called. So basically, he went from Thurs - Sun without really eating. This same person told me my dog was happy in his run at the time, but he was supposed to be in doggie daycare with other dogs. He said he didn't know if he should be in day care and would check on that. So I question how much time my dog actually got out of his run.
I'll try to give the business the benefit of the doubt on what might have been miscommunication, but the rest of what I found was unacceptable. When I picked up my dog I asked to go see him in his run because I wanted to see if he was comfortable. He was not. He was cowering and lying in what looked to be urine, and didn't even want to come to me. The chew treats I had left for him to be given every night were still in the bag on the ledge in his run. When we were walking out, I saw the food I had taken for him piled in with the other dogs' on a cart. I had specifically requested all uneaten treats and food be returned to me, but they had only put 1 of the 2 food bags with his things they had waiting for me up front and were planning on keeping everything else. I assume this served the purpose of making it look like he had eaten as well as padding their food supply.
That was annoying, but the condition of my dog was alarming. I almost gagged on the drive home because of how badly he smelled of urine. I'm sorry, but if he was in doggie day care all day and only his run at night then he should not have been rooting in his own filth. And I would expect that the runs (and him) to get rinsed off when needed. When I measured the food he I could see he had eaten about 2 cups of food over the 5 nights he was there. No wonder his skin was hanging off of him.
But the last straw for me was his skin. The fur on the entire underside of his chin and neck was stained from bloody sores he didn't have prior to boarding, as were both of his elbows. I can accept that maybe his elbows got scraped from being on cement in the run (even though he is an outdoor dog that sleeps on cement at home all the time without a problem), but not the underside of his chin. I don't even want to know what irritated his skin so badly that it bled. This picture was taken today (weeks after boarding), and he's still healing.
This place has a great setup with the indoor/outdoor runs and play yards. Their prices are reasonable. If I needed to drop my dog off for a day to socialize in doggie day care, I would consider it. But I'll never board him here again.
