After moving into the area I chose Calia at random from the local salons when I was struck by a whim and decided to chop off 10" of hair. I got an appointment for the next day with a senior stylist named Tracy. When I arrived at 6:30 pm the place was empty except for myself, Tracy and the friendly receptionist who suggested with so much hair coming off we donate it to Locks of Love to be made into a wig (which made me feel great).
Tracy took time to look through all of the sample photos I'd brought, and listened to me describe exactly what it was about each hairstyle that I liked and hoped to see in my own haircut. She checked out how my hair behaves while dry before shampooing me, and explained which of my ideas would work and which would be a pain for me to aim for. Once we'd settled on a general idea she spent a full hour and a half making sure it was perfect, and took the time to explain variations on my suggestion and her reasons for them, always waiting until I'd agreed before putting scissors to hair.
When she finished I realized it was 20 minutes after closing time, she'd spent a ton of extra time making sure the back looked good (something several people commented on when they saw the dramatic change), even though I'd probably never have noticed the difference.
Tracy suggested a couple ways to style it, taking into account my self-professed laziness when it comes to my hair. I really appreciate the fact that she didn't try to sell me a bunch of hair products that I'd never actually bother using.
