I went here on a cold morning as a storm was coming in over the Sierras. Light snow was hitting me as I went to take pictures, so I thought maybe I had made a mistake driving so far for some ruins. However, as the sun rose over the Sierras and bathed the valley in shades of yellow and orange, I knew I had found a ghost town comparable in beauty to Bodie. The difference in the two is that Bodie is more structurally complete, whereas Rhyolite features the starkness of the ruins against the backdrop of the mountains. I recommend going at sunrise as nobody will be there and the background will be out of this world.
