  • This is about as real and authentic as Italian food shopping gets. In a very rare instance (rare for me at least), I can truthfully say that this is indeed your Grandfather's Italian market! Thus, it isn't pretty like you would see at one of those "yuppified" gourmet markets (won't name and names) but I have been coming here since early childhood and it has scarcely changed. In fact the same boxes of aromatic salt cod remain at the entrance welcoming customers for well over 30 years! I am always fearful that places like these are in danger of going away mainly due to corporations coming in and driving them out. However, Pennsylvania Macaroni Co is a true institution and its name (backed up by the absolutely outstanding quality) is what keeps it going strong! Pittsburgh is an amazing town and seriously for many people, this is a true Pittsburgh landmark!
