| - Here's a note to hoteliers who make changes/updates to their hotels...make sure that your staffs are well informed about your hotel's accommodations.
I have previously been to the hotel which is now the Delano in its previous incarnation as TheHotel at Mandalay Bay. It was very Zen chic...Dark granite, stark decorations, incredible floral arrangements at every turn. Additionally, it was an "all-suite" hotel which meant that you didn't feel as though anyone was crowding your space during your stay. In short, my kind of place.
Well, now TheHotel has been rechristened The Delano and remodeled from their previous cool dark tones and the rooms have been lightened up and painted light cream with matching headboards. Additionally, the lobby area is now extremely stark and almost feels cavernous. I'm not sure how I feel about the remodel. Maybe, I need to give it some time to grow on me like a new haircut.
What hasn't changed are the bathrooms in the suites or the floor plans. I say that to say that upon our check-in, I walked into a suite which was significantly smaller than all of my previous suites. I called the front desk and was told by an uninformed employee that due to the remodel, they no longer had the types of queen suites that I was used to and that Expedia was informed of this fact quite some time ago. Additionally, she informed me that they were already at 96% capacity. The person that I spoke to also said that I could possibly be moved to the Mandalay Bay, but that my room wouldn't be a suite. Hunh???
What they didn't know was that my sister-in-law had the type of suite that I was referencing and that no extra cost was involved AND she booked through Expedia. After I expressed my displeasure and after the front desk personnel spoke with their management, suddenly a suite appeared that I was used to. (Went from a great view of the Strip to a lousy view of the back of the Luxor hotel, but we had breathing room.)
To make a long story short, I ended up speaking with a hotel representative named Chynna. Chynna was extremely understanding, personable and apologetic. She expressed sincere concern that I was misinformed and provided a voucher for our inconvenience. You go Chynna for positively representing your company and handling business!
What could have been a nightmare situation was turned around.
