Stopped in here on my LYS crawl of Calgary. I was not impressed; they had tons of Cascade Yarns (made in China *gag*), along with a decent amount of Debbie Bliss. Prices were slightly higher than other stores I visited. Same with the Addi Turbos; marked to 1-2 more CAD than other stores.
Selection I felt was mediocre; very common brands that are easily bought via yarn.com. The reason for such low reviews is that I usually like picking up and supporting local dyers and brands when I travel and it makes for a great souvenir. The store person was busy chatting it up with their regular who was apparently traveling to LA to go attend a Dodgers Stitch and Pitch (tsk tsk. major brownie point loss for being a Dodger fan for the regular!). What really made them lose stars was that when I asked where the local yarns were, the staff seemed really annoyed that I was interrupting their precious conversation about Los Angeles and waved me towards a general direction. Not even knowing what brands are local or names are local I asked for a bit more clarification 10 minutes later and she told me to "figure it out yourself. they're just over there and there."
No thanks. Never again. Maybe this place does earn their 4 and 5 star reviews from their regulars who probably enjoy knitting with Cascade and Debbie Bliss (since they had enough of that stuff until the world ends), but given their lack of service and rudeness for a non-regular, don't bother stopping in here unless you're BFF's with the staff. I'd happily spend my money at Stash Lounge or at The Loop.
