| - I stopped in because of a need for a commercial grade office chair. I am a pretty big guy 6'4, 295 lbs. I was tired of the chairs from the big box stores claiming to be big and tall, and heavy duty. I have been through 3 in the past 2 years. Either the hydraulics go, or the bolts seems to constantly loosen themselves somehow.
Anyway, I did a little research and decided I wanted a Herman Miller or a Steelcase chair. I figured if a chair was $850 - 1500 it had better last. But, of course I didn't want to pay that either. Enter, National Office, and the option for used ones.
I walked in and was immediately greeted and asked how they could help, had I used their services etc.
He directed me to their warehouse floor, said take a look around and someone would be with me in a few minutes.
Dorothy came out, greeted me and asked me my needs. She said they had several possible options and began taking me around exploring. I tried quite a few chairs and just couldn't find one I liked. I asked her to give me a half hour to explore and sit in some for a while.
I decided Herman Miller was not my style or feel. I ended up on the Steelcase Leap V1 or V2. I ended up selecting a V1 cloth model for $199. However, if I had the need for a chair which I used everyday, all day, let me tell you the Leap V2 complete leather chair is absolute heaven. The longer I sat in it the more comfortable it was. But alas, $699 was more than I was going to spend for a causal use chair. But to be fair it originally retailed for $1754 it said, and I can see why.
Dorothy went above and beyond in helping me find one that had not been reupholstered, but still had original fabric and hydraulics. It took a couple hours in total but she made it happen. The chair hadn't even yet been cleaned. They took it back and inspected it, steam cleaned it, wiped it completely down. The chair looked great once it was done.
Helpful hint: If the tag has RAF at the end of the model description it has been reupholstered with new fabric.
Anyway, I had a great experience. Dorothy treated me like I was buying a hundred chairs from them, and spent several hours working with me in total. She is phenomenal at what she does and I highly recommend asking for her if you go.
P.S. The actual entrance to it is on the E Grant St side, not actually on E Hadley side.
