Why we mainly frequent River Park as it's just a short 'hop in the car and were there' from our place.
As most dog parks, frequency of park dwellers is quite weather dependent. If it's below minus 10, chances are you won't see too many owners and their pooches frolicking along. On a warm sunny day on the weekend, this place is jumping.
It's a very straight go this park, you walk to one end then the other, offering an aerial view of the Elbow River. It is nice that there are three dumpsters that will accompany you along your trek for easy poop disposal. Though many patrons are still lost in the feces department and choose to ignore their pooches' droppings.
One of my favourite features is the human/dog friendly water fountain that you can find in the centre of the park. When it is a hot day, our dog will spot the fountain in the distance and take off at full tilt then wait around for someone to push the button for him to drink.
My main complaint with this park is the non-existent fencing from the road. The intersection at the north end of the park is very busy and I have seen a many a Fido run out of the park across the road infront of oncoming traffic to see another dog or chasing a bird.
So other than the blantant safety hazards for your pet and the little creek bed they can run into and became mud encrusted. This place is a fine and dandy spot for a stroll with your pooch off-leash.
