| - Let me start by saying, I absolutely love this gym.
(I'm bout a week away from my groupon expiring now)
I have been boxing since I was younger and never thought I would try my hand at MMA. However when I was taking a break from boxing (I have bad hands) I thought I would try something new to challenge my body.
Looking on groupon, I saw XCMMA had a special at the time 45$ for 3 months (normally 89$ for 3 months) and so I thought, why not? (I felt as if I was cheating on boxing because I've done it exclusively for so long.. LOL)
Pros:
- The staff here are really nice and welcoming. Which is a very big plus for me.
- Really big gym, very big space to do any and every kind of workout you want.
- Amount of equipment :
From kettle bells, machines, Dumbbells, treadmills, bikes, power sleds, slam balls, row machine, trx, pull up bars and more
- Gym goers are really nice no matter what level you are. It really feels like a family, because when you are struggling they will help push you. (Boxing gyms always felt dark to me. Like you're on your own in there here is the exact opposite.)
- I love how every hour there is a new class with a totally different workout. ( I really need the structure to help me workout more effectively)
- If you don't wanna take a class you can just go and workout but just stay away from classes that are working.
- TRAINERS: the most important part to any great gym.
I haven't tried the ground classes yet, but everyone says great things about them and the trainers.
I'm only reviewing the trainers classes I've taken
-Danny and Tim: run a great cardio kickboxing class always drenched in sweat by the end.
-Gil's: cross conditioning class is always tough and you always leave feeling stronger from the full body workout.
-Joel: boxing class is always tough because it's more of a old school boxing feel. He makes you run most of the class, and you spar for the rest of the class. (Be ready)
-Dennis : kickboxing class ; less running and you work different combinations on a partner while he comes by and helps if you need some.
-Jamie: boxing class, his class is the polar opposite of Joel's , focusing on form a lot of the class, moving to bag work and eventually moving to combinations on your partner. As he comes by and tweaks it according to how you're doing.
-Cons:
- I know it's a part of mma and all but sometimes the mat is really really disgusting. They clean it once in the morning and you can see the nasty stuff when you take classes later in the day.
- Their rental gear are just nasty , go out and buy some cheap gear from Walmart or sports authority.
-They have showers which are usually a plus, but feel kinda dirty and they are small.
- I don't use it but the sauna is really small.
Summary:
If you're thinking about it.
"Just do it, yesterday you said you would today.
Just do it." - Shia Lebouf
But in all seriousness. Sign up, you won't regret.
