For some reason the hotel pricing around this weekend just past for Pittsburgh was higher than usual. I also included a 3rd person because my brother came along and it raises the prices slightly and changes the availability when searching for hotels on Hotwire.
Yes, this was a Hotwire purchase that I had and went with 2.5 or 3 star honestly I couldn't remember what is was at the time I had booked. I normally go with 3 to 4* hotels when booking but I got La Quinta this time around and we were going to make the best of it.
Upon arriving there was a decent amount of parking and the check in seemed easy enough. I was given a room 130 something I can't remember the exact room but when we entered it was really smelling of smoke. This room was a smoking room but the smell was so overwhelming it was as if it was just smoked in. Being that I'm allergic to that and it was too strong of a smell to handle I had called the front desk and requested another room that was non-smoking. Honestly these days I'm very surprised there are even smoking rooms still available. I can't remember the last time I've been to a hotel that allowed it.
After speaking to the front desk we were able to swap to another room that only had a king bed and being that we were three they sent up a cot for us. I was happy that they were able to accommodate that requirement. I would have been upset not to mention probably hard of breathing if we would have been stuck in that smoking area and room.
Besides that the room is basic and nothing beyond that besides the friendly service from the staff. In the several nights we stayed we saw numerous flight crews make their way in so it seems to be very popular with them. While they offer a free basic and light breakfast I wasn't really interested in eating there. My wife did however get coffee from the lobby.
La Quinta is a basic hotel with some places nearby to eat like Pizza Hut, Primanti Brothers and Wendy's. Being that it's close to the airport I can't say it was noisy with air traffic or anything like that. It was a decent place but it was more affordable than many I've stayed in (dozens) in the Pittsburgh area.
Nate, one of the front desk people was great and very helpful to us.
