I was a fan of House of Tricks for a long time. Such a unique garden setting just off Tempe's Mill Ave. Over the last couple of years, things seemed to have gone downhill - ho-hum food and mediocre service. They had really lost their edge.
Returned for lunch today and tried a new menu item (Green Curry Crispy Tofu Bowl). It was delicious!!! And we were served by an attentive waiter who was not only knowledgeable about the menu, but enthusiastic! And willing to go and get more information for us. I was happy to see the change, and I will be back!
Update: Back again today and the Green Curry Crispy Tofu Bowl was again delicious. Unfortunately the service was very slow again. We are working folk and cannot sit around for nearly an hour before getting the entrees. I realize the 1920s authenticity is part of the charm, but the wood benches are pretty painful when you're waiting on food to come.
