| - We visit the House of Blues for Homegrown Thursdays when local bands take the stage and you get to eat and have a show.
Our friends, Left Standing, were playing last night (7/7/11) and we decided to eat at the show and show some support.
We arrived, waited for seats even though there were open tables right in front of the stage. When we were being seated, we politely asked if it would be possible to sit closer to the stage, as those tables were open. We were told there was no server for that section. I'm sorry, but a section consisting of 2 tables in a place like the HOB?!?!? I don't think so. We took the table we were offered, in the back of the room, off to the side and basically on the gaming floor.
Before we even ordered our drinks, there was another couple at the the table where there "isn't a server". Oh, and they got their food before we did!
Our server was great, let me get that out there. He was busy, and forgot out water, but he was good. He had good personality and corrected anything we needed. I ordered two sides, the veggies and mashed potatoes. The veggies were good, but in my opinion, not warm enough.
The potatoes came out at the same time as Chris' meal and they were COLD. After a few bites the server came to check on us, when I mentioned the potatoes were cold, he immediately took them and brought me new ones. We didn't have to wait for refills, and he continued to check on us all night.
I am not one to keep quiet, though. I asked to speak to the floor manager and question the policy regarding the seating. I explained the situation, very calmly, and made it very clear that I was in NO WAY complaining about the service.
As a result, we were offered better seating that was open, and they comp'd us some drinks and desserts.
The section we moved to had a different server, and he was on top of it. He had a great personality and checked on us frequently.
The menu, unfortunately, got much smaller than we remembered. When we first started coming to the HOB I remember it had a "real" menu - the plastic covered kind with multiple pages. Now they're down to a 1 page oversized piece of paper with food on one side and drinks on the other. If you are with a picky eater, don't bother. Or, if you won't want to pay out the ass for your meal, you're in the wrong place.
The more we go here, the more we are disappointed in the establishment. We've had good service, in fact, past servers even came up to us and checked in.
With this seating fiasco and the limited menu, the only times we will ever return is for Left Standing or another friend-band playing - and we'll likely skip the food and drinks and just stand for the show.
