  • I am new to the Las Vegas area. My friend got me in to see Dr. Dunsmoor at Box Canyon Primary Care. Dr. Dunsmoor recently moved his practice from another group to Box Canyon. I am on Disability and need a doctor I can see who can help me with all of my medical needs and diagnoses. I saw Dr. Dunsmoor on July 1st and really liked him. The problem has been the follow up with the office since my visit. I was told I needed an MRI of my back. Dr. Dunsmoor's medical assistant said that the referral was sent to Steinberg Diagnostics for them to get pre-authorization from my insurance company. I had to leave a message with Dr. Dunsmoor's assistant and the message said they would return the call within 48 hours. I did get a return call but it said that Steinberg would call me to schedule the MRI. Another week went by and I called Dr. Dunsmoor again to check on the MRI. Again, no one could help me and I was forced to leave a message with the promise that someone would return the call within 48 hours. I have found communication with Box Canyon to be very difficult and it seems to be impossible to talk to a live person when you call. I tried to call Box Canyon today to get another appointment with Dr. Dunsmoor as I am pretty sure I have a UTI. I was told the soonest appointment would be in October. OCTOBER?? I could not believe it. I told them what I needed to be seen for and was told I could go to urgent care. Why would I go to urgent care which costs $40 more with my insurance when I have a primary care physician? I am extremely disappointed. No one was willing to help me and I was forced to leave another message with the promise that someone would return my call within 48 hours. I was very hopeful that Dr. Dunsmoor would be my new primary care physician, however I am now convinced that he will not be my doctor. A primary care physician should be the physician you can go to when you are sick. If you wake up sick you should be able to call your primary care physician and be able to be seen that day or the next day. That is how it should work. It should NOT take 2 - 3 months to get an appointment with a primary care physician when you are sick. I have NEVER experienced anything like this in my 58 years. Is this a Las Vegas thing? I don't know, but it sure does not speak very well of the medical care a consumer can get in Las Vegas. It is obvious to me that if you are older, have several health issues and are on disability that Box Canyon Primary Care is not the right medical care provider. I would not recommend Box Canyon Primary Care unless you are young and healthy and only need to see your doctor once a year for a routine physical.
